Sitges is found in the Barcelona coast, place where history has been made throughout the centuries by arabs, phoenicians, carthaginians, romans etc...but Sitges as the city, or the municipality does not begin to tell it´s tale until the X century, even if was still an important city before this time.

We must mention that in the I Century, the port of Sitges started to have very important comercial activity. Miralpeix and Campdsasens are the castles found in this town. These feudal castles were passed down from generation to generation and became the first buildings of the actual Sitges.

Agriculture, fishing, and commerce are activities that were the growing steps of Sitges becoming a city. It´s first economic activities reached a great importance around the XVIII century when the commerce in America started growing due to the Law of free commerce of 1778. This was a reason that so many flocked to the america´s. It went so so well that many returned bringing back custums of that far away land. Not in vain, Sitges counted on a fleet of their own boats to go around the Mediterrenean Sea.

These cosmopolitan ways started a cultural richness important in Sitges, a richness that was clearly seen in the XIX century when the municipality was known as the most important cultural corner in Catalonia, with paintors, sculptors, artists, literary figures that made Sitges their home of residence.

Nowadays Sitges is still a cultural city, a city with history and a tourist city where culture and leisure fuse together in the form of the Film Festival, or that of art expositions and permanent expos.
